Ukrainian Tourists Arrested for Assault in Phuket

On June 7, two Ukrainian nationals were arrested in Phuket after allegedly assaulting a security guard who confronted them for urinating in public near a shopping center in Kathu district.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:25 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, in a commercial area occupied by local vendors. According to police, the two foreign men were caught on CCTV relieving themselves in public. A security guard on duty approached and instructed them to stop.

Instead of complying, the men reportedly became aggressive. One of them struck the guard in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. Tourist police reviewed surveillance footage and later apprehended the suspects at a nearby hotel on Tuesday, June 10.

The suspects, aged 27 and 38, were formally charged with assault resulting in both physical and psychological harm, according to a statement issued by Phuket tourist police on June 11.

The names of the individuals have not been released, and authorities have not confirmed whether they will face immigration-related proceedings in addition to criminal charges.

Tourist police emphasized that legal action will be pursued in accordance with Thai law. Officials from the Phuket Provincial Police and the Tourist Police Bureau are overseeing the case.
